From NetSpeed Leader Volume 25, 2/16/06

Useful, easy-to-follow tips for how to maximize the effectiveness and impact of your training delivery.

This month’s Trainer Tips are from Elys Brewda, a veteran Master Trainer and Certified NetSpeed Leadership Consultant in Seattle, Washington:

Shine the light on the participants and not on yourself. You’re not the sage on the stage but the guide on the side.

If you’re new to training, learn effective questioning techniques. When there is resistance in the class, don’t get defensive—get more information! We think of resistance as negative but usually learners are not trying to be provocative—they just want clarification or want more information.

If you ask rather than tell, people never argue with their own data. You’ll be able to effectively deal with resistance and create a positive learning environment.
