ASTD Learning Circuits: The Virtual Facilitator

As web conferencing is increasingly being used by organizations to meet the learning needs of remote or dispersed employees, you may be called up to facilitate a virtual classroom. If you want to capture learner's attention, engage their minds, and encourage behavior change, you must do more than display a slick, slide presentation.

Chief Learning Officer: What Stinks About Webinars?

"Webinars are offered by people for people... They ... were eager to applaud Cynthia Clay, president of Netspeed Learning Solutions. Cunningham reported, 'Clay had a great Web presence; even with audio difficulties, she never lost a step. She had an energy that vibrated throughout the webinar. She was as excited at the beginning as she was at the end. Clay assured participation by providing a prize at the end for a lucky individual pulled from a list of those who were first to volunteer answers and questions.'"

The article appears on the Chief Learning Officer website as well as in the printed magazine, beginning on page 46.

Training Magazine: Avatars - Beyond Virtual Reality

Avatars most frequently are used in virtual worlds such as Second Life, but they also can be used to "people" technology such as Seattle-based NetSpeed Leadership's virtual platform that uses avatars to support podcasts about workplace issues... Clay and consultant partner Dan Kennedy both have avatars that speak during NetSpeed’s podcasts. "Their purpose is to make the podspot a bit more attention getting, since many of us need that visual stimulation," says Clay.
